Group A are the people who collected vinyl records/cassettes/CDs/iTunes libraries throughout their lives. Others prefer the streaming method, where they might have certain genres, styles of music, and even artists they enjoy, but they’re happy letting a curator (human or algorithmic) send them an endless stream of songs roughly based on their tastes. Some people like to collect hundreds, if not thousands of albums, organize them, maintain them, and play back the specific music they want to hear at that specific moment. There are two primary types of music listeners - those who maintain libraries and those who don’t. If I could provide a 30,000 foot summary of what I see as the major problem inherent to Apple Music’s design, it’s that it doesn’t quite know what it wants to be. Here’s why the app is so controversial, has so many shortcomings, and what Apple can do to improve it. For a company with so many fantastic products and such high standards, the Apple Music app is a rare misstep. Some of these flaws have been resolved, many haven’t, and some new ones have been introduced. In those 6 years, I’ve written extensively on Apple Music’s flaws - both big and small. In the 6+ years since Apple Music was released in June of 2015, it has been a controversial app, to put it mildly. If you enter lyrics for a song in iTune s (see “Adding Lyrics” on page 21) and then add the song to iPod classic, you can view the lyrics on iPod classic.Apple Music for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS are in rough shape. Note: You cannot assign ratings to video podcasts. Use the Click Wheel to choose a rating (represented by stars).
You can use song ratings to help you create Smart Playlists automatically in iTunes.įrom the Now Playing screen, press the Center button until the five Rating bullets appear. You can assign a rating to a song (from 1 to 5 stars) to indicate how much you like it. You can rename, edit, or delete the new playlist, just as you would any playlist in iTunes. You see the new On-The-Go playlist in the list of playlists in iTunes.

If iPod classic is set to update songs aut omatically (see “Syncing Music Automatically” on page 24), and you make an On-The-Go playlist, the playlist is automatically copied to iTunes when you connect iPod classic. To copy the On-The-Go playlists to your computer: After you save a playlist, you can no longer remove songs from it. You can save as many playlists as you like. The first playlist is saved as “New Playlist 1” in the Playlists menu. To save the On-The-Go playlists on iPod classic:Ĭhoose Music > Playlists > On-The-Go > Save Playlist. Select a song in the playlist, and hold down the Center button until a menu appears.Ĭhoose Remove from the On-The-Go, and then press the Center button.Ĭhoose Music > Playlists > On-The-Go > Clear Playlist and then click Clear.
